Stargazing
The Southern night sky of Aoraki Mackenzie has been rightly designated an International Dark Sky Reserve.
It is truly magnificent.
The stars don't just shine, they blaze!
Warm drinks and extra warm layers are provided.
Children under 8 years are not included on our standard night sky tour unless by prior arrangement.
A private family group tour can include younger children.
Tour start times vary with seasonal change of darkness hours
We meet at Mackenzie Country Hotel Reception at tour start time.
Private group bookings may be transported to and from accommodation.
Te Araroa Walkers Bike Hire & Luggage Transfer
Price includes bike hire/delivered/collected, bag transfer (max.15kg). Bike hire includes carrier bag, bottle holder, helmet, hi-vis vest, bike lock.
A2O Day Tripper - Lake Pukaki
On the Pukaki Trail your lake and mountain vistas include Aoraki Mt Cook.
Stop for refreshments and salmon at Pukaki Visitor Centre.
Continue to Twizel on the A2O Pukaki Flats Trail or canal roads.
A2O Day Tripper - Lake Ohau
Start your ride at Ohau Lodge with coffee or pre-booked lunch with beautiful lake and mountain views.
You will cycle alongside Lake Ohau past Ohau Village and Lake Middleton then continue around Lake Ohau.
On the Ohau Lakeside Trail you enjoy a greater feeling of remoteness with the prominent Ben Ohau Range across the water.
Continuing from Lake Ohau on the canal roads past a salmon farm and usually a few recreational people fishing.
We recommend cycling Lake Ruataniwha (canal on your left) for another spectacularly scenic ride to Twizel
A2O Day Tripper - Lake Benmore
Start your ride at Quailburn Valley or stay in the van to start closer to Omarama.
On the Quailburn trail you have a sense of vast open space with rural and mountain vistas.
Continue on the Ahuriri River Trail to Omarama stop for coffee, lunch or pick up a picnic at The Wrinkly Rams Cafe.
Continue from Omarama on the trail to Lake Benmore to meander the lakeside to Sailors Cutting Lake Benmore.
Picnic here while waiting for your return transport to Twizel, or cycle back to Omarama for a pre-booked relaxing Hot Tub.
A2O Weekender - Option 3
Itinerary: Friday/Saturday Twizel - Mt Cook – Braemar Stn – Twizel
- Pre trip Thursday arrive Twizel, bike & equipment fitting, stay overnight in Twizel
- Day 1 Friday morning shuttle to Mt Cook, helicopter flight, cycle to Braemar Station (40km)
- Day 2 Cycle to Twizel (40km)
